Going Back to School with Braces
Has your child started school already or are they getting ready to start school? If your children are starting or going back to school with braces then there are a few things that you as well as them need to be prepared for. Below is a list of some things to keep in mind.
- Give your child a care kit for braces. A braces care kit can include; toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and dental wax.
- Pack a simple lunch. As you already know, there are certain foods that your child should not be eating so when packing a lunch for your child make sure to pack a lunch that is easy to eat and doesn’t get too much food stuck in the braces.
- Pack a water bottle. Drinking water is healthy plus it helps move food that could be stuck around the brackets or the wires.
- If your child participates actively in sports, it might be best to invest in a new mouth guard.
- Having your child go back to school with braces can be difficult but sometimes a special treat can help cheer them up. Maybe on days when your child has a dental appointment you can take them out for a ice cream or some kind of sweet treat.
Hopefully these tips are helpful for both you and your child. We hope they are enjoying their new school year or are looking forward to going back to school. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your Orthodontist for assistance.
