Do’s and Don’ts for Living with Braces
Yes, braces can be trying at times, even when you know that it’s all worth it. Still, there are ways to make the whole process easier – and easier for your loved ones. So, here are a few important do’s and don’ts:
DO prepare a “care kit” with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, wax, and lip balm to carry with you at all times.
DO keep your rubber bands in all the time (except for when you’re brushing your teeth). This may cause some discomfort, but it will stop the hooks from digging into or getting caught on your cheeks.
DON’T panic if your wires or brackets break, and DON’T try to bend the wire or pull it out. That could only make things worse. Just cover any sharp edges with wax and call your orthodontist as soon as possible.
DON’T be afraid to smile! You’re on your way to a great new look. You’ve got plenty to celebrate!
