Has your doctor told you that you need to get braces? Unfortunately, most of us have to get braces at some point in our lives. Even though getting braces may seem like a pain, they can have great benefits in the long run. Thanks to the latest advancements in technology, there are a variety of braces that are offered to patients. Read this post to learn more about the different types of braces and their functions.

Traditional Braces

Metal braces (traditional braces) are the best way to go for tending to areas where there is severe overcrowding. Wearing traditional braces allows your orthodontist to be able to have full control over your teeth so that they can guide your them in the right way in small steps. With metal braces, brackets are connected together by a thin wire which applies pressure on teeth allowing them to slowly move in a straightened position. Another plus side of traditional braces is that they aren’t as expensive as Invisalign and clear braces. The one downside with having traditional braces is that the metal will show visibly, but thanks to new advancements and new trends, you can actually get metal braces in a variety of colors and styles.

Ceramic Braces

The function of ceramic braces, is very similar to that of traditional braces. The biggest difference between the two is that with ceramic braces, the brackets consist of a clear, transparent ceramic material. The great thing about ceramic braces is that they are less visible so it becomes a favored option for many adults. The downside of ceramic braces is that they are delicate, so they can chip or break if not taken care of properly.

Damon Braces

If you’re looking for braces that cost less and take less time then damon braces are the best option for you. Damon braces are applied similarly to traditional braces but they don’t require elastics to connect wires. Due to the slide mechanism, it allows to your teeth to move on their own without you having to go to the dentist constantly for adjustments. All this makes them more comfortable, better looking and able to provide strong results in a shorter time.

Invisalign (Clear and Removable Aligners)

If you don’t want to go with metal or damon braces, then you have the option of Invisalign. These orthodontic appliances are great since they are both clear and removable, which makes it easier to clean and eat with them. These clear and removable aligners are designed to custom-fit your teeth, similar to that of mouth guards.

Hopefully this information about the different types of braces, will be of help to you. Before deciding on the the type of braces you want, it would be best to speak with your orthodontist and discuss which type is best for you. Your orthodontist will be able to help choose the best option for you based on your teeth and other factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Different Types of Braces Have you noticed that your teeth aren’t straight?
