New Year Goal: Caring for Your Teeth

The new year has started and most of us have probably created a list of goals and tasks we want to accomplish this year. Now check your list, did it include taking care of your teeth? Just like you take care of your body it is just as important that you take care of your mouth. So without further delay, here are some steps to get you started on the new year goal of caring for your teeth.

  1. You want to start by scheduling an appointment with your dentist. Call your dentist or check your calendar and find out when was the last time you were at the dentist. If it’s been a year or more then pick up that phone and schedule your appointment. It is important that you schedule dental cleanings at least twice a year so that you can be sure your teeth are staying clean and healthy. Plus, if there are any issues and you need to go for treatment, your dentist can refer you to an orthodontist.
  2. In addition to eating healthy for your body, it can’t harm you to eat healthy for the safety of your teeth. Consider eating foods that contain calcium and fiber, as both are beneficial for your teeth.
  3. Just as you want to cut out sugar from your diet in order to lose weight, you can also cut out sugar to help protect your teeth. Eating too much sugar can increase your chances for things like cavities and tooth loss. The best thing you can do is try and cut out sugar as much as possible, for example, you can drink less juice and soda and drink more water.
  4. Make sure that you’re sticking to a good oral care routine. This means that you need to make sure that you’re brushing your teeth twice a day as well as flossing and rinsing your mouth after your meals.

Hopefully, with the help of this list, you’ll be able to accomplish your new year goal of caring for your teeth. Best of luck to you in hopes that you accomplish all your goals for the year ahead!
