Oral Health Tips to Get You Through Summer

Summer is here which means taking care of your teeth is more important now than ever especially with all the food and beverages you’ll be eating and drinking trying to cool down. So what are some things that you can do to ensure that you keep your mouth and teeth healthy and clean during the summer? Check out this post to learn about oral health tips to get you through the summer!

Just because it’s summer break doesn’t mean that it’s break time for your teeth. You must be sure to maintain proper oral hygiene all year round. This means that it’s important to brush, floss and rinse twice a day and even more so if you’re eating a lot of foods or drinking beverages that can be harmful to your teeth. Also, it might be a good idea to check your family’s toothbrushes to make sure that they aren’t worn out and if they are then you should definitely replace them.

Due to COVID, going for a checkup or cleaning might not be safe or possible to do. A good thing to do is find out if you can do a virtual consultation so your oral care provider can determine if you need to come in right away or if it’s okay to wait.

Another great oral care tip to get you through the summer is to make sure that you and your family are eating healthy. This means eating more fruits and vegetables and less of the chips, candy and soda. Eating fruits and vegetables are great because not only are they nutritious but they are also great for your overall health. Some vegetables are even great in helping keep your teeth strong and healthy too!

Lastly, it’s important that your family is prepared in case of an orthodontic emergency. If your child wears any type of orthodontic appliance, it might be a good idea to ask your orthodontist what things to keep handy just in case of an emergency. Also another way to stay on the safe side is to try and avoid any sort of sport or activity that could cause harm to the mouth area.

If you and your family follow the tips listed above then you all should be able to get through summer just fine! If you have anymore questions or concerns, be sure and give your orthodontist a call.
