The Benefits of Flossing

Flossing is just as important as brushing and rinsing your teeth in that it’s an important part of keeping your teeth healthy and clean plus it can help with eliminating bad odor from your mouth. Just like brushing is an important part of your daily routine, flossing should be the same. By brushing your teeth you’re removing food particles and bacteria from the surface of your teeth but sometimes food particles can get stuck between your teeth and this is where flossing comes in handy. To learn more about the benefits of flossing continue reading this post.

The first benefit of flossing your teeth after each meal is that you’re preventing yourself from getting gingivitis. Brushing won’t help you remove plaque buildup but flossing can help with that. If you let plaque buildup, then bacteria that forms can aggravate your gum tissue which will then cause bleeding and inflammation which can then lead to gingivitis. If you leave the gingivitis untreated, it can worsen and cause periodontal disease which can then lead to further complications. Periodontal disease can cause bacteria which can appear in other parts of your body if it ends up going through your bloodstream. Another issue that can occur with having a periodontal disease is diabetes.

Another benefit of flossing is that you’re preventing your teeth from getting cavities. In the same way that gingivitis can occur as a result of dental plaque, cavities can also form because of the damaging bacteria that could harm the enamel that lies between your teeth.

Remember, if you do your part with flossing in addition to brushing, you should be able to avoid getting gingivitis, cavities or periodontal diseases. Also, don’t forget to schedule an appointment to get your teeth checked and cleaned. Happy Flossing!
