Which Mouthwash is Best for You!?

Do you have bad breath? Has your dentist or orthodontist mentioned to you that you have plaque buildup or gingivitis? If any of these issues are occurring then it might be time to invest in a Mouthwash or Rinse. Rinsing your mouth can help with a number of things from keeping your mouth clean and fresh to protecting your gums. If you are planning to start using a mouthwash there are a few things you should take into consideration. There are a few types of mouthwashes, all with different purposes so once you’ve chosen one, consult your orthodontist or dentist to make sure you’re using one that’s best suitable for your teeth. Here are the types of mouthwashes that can be used:

Fluoride Mouthwash and Rinse:

A mouthwash that contains fluoride can help to toughen the enamel of your teeth, which can help stop tooth decay. People with dry mouth, or cavities should make sure to use to a mouth rinse that contains fluoride. Also, you should use a mouthwash that contains fluoride, especially if your toothpaste doesn’t contains fluoride. A fluoride mouthwash will not help in removing plaque so if you have a plaque buildup then you should speak to your orthodontist about what can be done and they might be able to suggest a stronger type of mouthwash to help with plaque buildup.

Alcohol-Free Mouthwash

When you use an alcohol-free mouth rinse it binds to the exterior of germs, which makes them rupture and then helps reduce buildup on the teeth. If you’re planning to use a mouth rinse, make sure that you’re also brushing and flossing as well . A mouth rinse can help with plaque and gingivitis but check to make sure that you’re using a mouth rinse that is specifically for those issues. You want to make sure that the mouthwash will help kill bacteria that might be causing damage to your teeth.

One thing to remember is that even though some mouth rinses can help to fight plaque and gingivitis, you still need to brush and floss your teeth in addition to rinsing your mouth. If you don’t feel like the mouthwashes or rinses you’ve chosen are working effectively on your teeth, speak to your orthodontist so they can assist you or maybe even provide you with someone that’s more effective. Lastly, if you can’t get your hands on mouthwash, then remember that you can always rinse your mouth with water. Happy Rinsing!
