Brushing Tips for Patients with Braces
Who would have thought that brushing your teeth while wearing braces would be so complicated? Well, in spite of it being a complicated and a bit of a challenge, we want to make sure you brush and take care of your teeth the right way now so that once the braces come off you’ll have beautiful teeth to proudly show off. Below are some helpful tips for brushing your teeth with braces.
Tip #1: When choosing a toothbrush, make sure it’s one with soft bristles so as to not hurt your teeth or damage your gums.
Tip #2: When brushing, go the first round brushing your teeth, using just a wet toothbrush without the toothpaste. The reason for this is that when you use toothpaste while brushing, foam begins to form in your mouth making it difficult to see your teeth. When you brush the second time around, then use the toothpaste.
Tip #3: How many minutes do spend brushing your teeth normally? If you spend less than 2 minutes brushing then that’s not enough. It is recommended that you spend two minutes brushing your teeth, 30 seconds on each side of your mouth, left and right plus the top bottom.
Tip #4: Out of all the flavors of toothpaste, which ones have you tried? No matter which ones you’ve tried or how many flavors you’ve tried, the important thing to make sure if that whichever toothpaste you use consists of fluoride as an ingredient.
If you follow the four tips mentioned above, you should be able to maintain clean healthy teeth while you have your braces on. The biggest thing you’ll notice is when you get your braces off because if you’ve followed the tips then you should have a beautiful clean smile once your braces come off!
