Consuming High-Fiber Foods Are Beneficial for Healthy Gums
Have you been told that your gums look unhealthy? Are they swollen or do they bleed when you brush them?
Preventing gums that are swollen doesn’t just involve practicing good oral hygiene, it also helps to eat snacks that contain high amounts of fiber. Snacks that contain high amounts of fiber can help lower the risks of bone loss and receding gums. Foods that are high in fiber involve a lot of chewing which in return causes saliva to build up in the mouth.
Here is a list of foods you can eat to help maintain healthy gums:
Leafy Greens – They contain Vitamin-c, which helps produce red blood cells and decreases inflammation.
Green Tea – The antioxidants in green tea help fight off inflammation caused by bacteria.
Citrus Fruits – Fruits such as; oranges, kiwis, strawberries, and pineapples work as anti-inflammatories.
Celery, Carrots, and Apples – You want to eat these types of foods because they are hard and crunchy which makes them great for removing food and plaque that get stuck on your teeth. Also, most fruits and vegetables that are crunchy are also usually high in fiber. When fruits and vegetables are high in fiber they help produce saliva in your mouth which then helps clear up bacteria.
Milk, Yogurt and Cheese – Consuming Dairy Products are good for your teeth because they contain high amounts of calcium which helps with bone strengthening as well as being beneficial to your gums.
If you be sure to include these fruits and vegetables in your diet then you should be on the right track for having healthier gums. Should you need more information or a complete list of foods that are beneficial for your gums then please speak with your oral care provider.
