How Do You Know If You Need Braces?
How Do You Know If You Need Braces? Normally only your dentist or your orthodontist would be able to tell if you need to wear braces. The reason that they can tell if you need braces is that they can use a set of tools, run x-rays and take photos as well as other things to determine if you need braces. Once your dentist or orthodontist determines if you need to get braces they can then talk to you about braces or other orthodontic treatment and find the best treatment plan that they feel would be best for you.
Here is a list of orthodontic terms that would qualify you for braces:
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
- Open Bite
- Misplaced Midline
- Spacing Crowding
(More details about these orthodontic problems in another future post.)
Once your orthodontists tells you what orthodontic problem you have then they’ll most likely talk to you about your options for orthodontic treatment to correct the issue. Orthodontic Treatment will involve you having to wear either a fixed appliance or a removable appliance in your mouth. Here are the names of various fixed and removable appliance your orthodontist might have you wear depending on your specific case.
- Braces
- Special Fixed Appliances
- Fixed Space Maintainers
- Aligners
- Removable Space Maintainers
- Jaw Repositioning Appliances
- Lip and Cheek Bumpers
- Palatal Expander
- Removable Retainer
- Headgear
(More details about these orthodontic problems in another future post.)
Hopefully, after reading this post you’ll be able to notice if you need to talk to your dentist or orthodontist about getting an orthodontic treatment done. Be on the lookout for posts that go more into detail about the different types of orthodontic treatment and the different types of orthodontic appliances. If you have any concerns or questions speak with your orthodontist so they can assist you with your orthodontic needs.
