Keep Your Braces Candy Free This Halloween!
During the month of October, everyone is getting ready for Halloween. Stores are selling an extra amount of candy and leaving us all to buy them or to distribute on Halloween night or at parties. Children especially are probably receiving a ton of candy at school so it’s especially important that they be careful not to eat too much candy and to make sure that they are keeping their teeth clean and healthy. It is extremely important that children with braces or any other orthodontic appliances be careful about what types of candy they put in their mouth because many candies should be avoided while wearing braces.
Just to be on the safe side, we’ve provided a list of the types of candy and snacks that your child should avoid as well as a list of some of the candies and snacks your child can eat so that they still can enjoy sweet treats this Halloween.

- any candy consisting of hard nuts

- Soft Cookies (no cookies with nuts)

Lastly, it is important that whether your child wears braces or not that they are taking extra care of their teeth this month. With all the sweet treats and snacks they will be eating, children need to make sure they brush and floss and drink lots of water. The cleaner they keep their teeth the healthier their teeth will be.
